The Balaton Uplands located in Hungary have been inhabited for
seven millennia, dating back to the new Stone Age. The Hungarian
Apothecary Mud comes from the Heviz Lake in the Hungarian town of
the same name, (heviz means flowing water). Archeological explorations
have revealed that the Romans were aware of the healing power of
the mud and water for this lake and it attracted many who built
villas there. Thermal waters were also very popular during the Turkish
occupation of Hungary, especially among officers and soldiers who
suffered from gout. The first scientific analysis of the waters
from the Springlands, the much larger area of land once covered
by the lake, was performed in 1769 by the chief medical officer
of Hungary.
During the two world wars Heviz became the most popular spa in
the country. Wounded soldiers were treated and often cured in the
spa. In 1952, the Heviz Public Spa Hospital was established by the
public ministry and soon, Heviz became the largest spa in the country
where patients were treated for rheumatic diseases. Now, at the
beginning of the 21st century Heviz continues to develop and is
one of the most popular and dynamic spas in Hungary.
The mud and the water of the lake is the product of 200 million
years of the earth's evolution. At one time seawater covered the
region. About 180 million years ago the sea withdrew leaving a tropical
environment. About 2 million years ago the welling of hot springs
in the area was the first sign of prior volcanic activity and 22
thousand years ago Lake Heviz began to form, as it exists today.
A peat moor formed from the once lush flora in the former lake basin.
The water of the Heviz Lake is heated by geothermal energy.
Water flows from a huge catchment area through out the surrounding
hills and mountains. During its journey the water dissolves numerous
metals and minerals that are deposited into the lake where, due
to the great geothermal activity bubbling up from below the lake
bed, the entire body of water in its entirety reverses from bottom
to top during each 48-hour period.
Hungarian Apothecary Mud (Moor Mud) from this lake contains a complex
array of nutrients, natural trace elements, minerals and humic substances
easily absorbed through human skin. The benefits to the skin include
toning, detoxifying, anti-inflammatory benefits which help to renew
old or damaged skin cells. Moor Mud products are used in European
spas to relieve over 50 ailments.
Curortology is the science of the natural therapies which combined
the effects of climate, water, and mud treatments. Today as we are
treated with many synthetic products the demand for natural health
and wellness is reviving the concept of spa treatment. Hungarian
Apothecary Mud offers a return to one's natural self and that is
what draws an individual closer to a spa experience. Through the
hands of nature Hungarian Apothecary Mud can facilitate:
Preparation for or Recovery from Extreme Athletic
Exertion & Injuries
Stress Reduction : Increased Circulation in the Skin : Benefit Acne
Relief of Chronic Dry Skin : Decreased Uticaria (itching)
How does the Mud work?
Hungarian Apothecary Mud can be used cold or hot as a compress.
During application, of the Mud, because of the skin's natural absorbency
and the process of vasodilation and vasoconstriction (expanding
and constricting of blood vessels) the minerals will be absorbed
and permeate the layers of the skin and circulate through the body
promoting health and healing. Given the volcanic and complex natural
material composition of the Mud, it has the ability to retain heat,
hence its unique thermal element.
The skin's three layers can naturally absorb the composition of
minerals and elements in the mud. In Eastern Medicine the skin is
known as "The Third Lung" and because of its ability to
circulate blood throughout the vessels of the skin, this flushing
out process of the skin's layers is considered to have similar benefits
of a cardiovascular workout.
Hungarian Apothecary Mud adheres to the philosophy of treating the
skin from the inside out, which in turn assists us in the relief
of ailments, enhances our well being and provides us with a healthier
lifestyle.
